Well two more of Obama's nominees bit the dust because of tax issues. I still believe Gethner should have bowed out, but what's done is done. The important thing is that the President has got to take control of the stimulus package and show how it is going to jump start the economy. Let's face it, Pelosi and company in the House filled it with pork, pork that does nothing for the overall economy. Now the Senate is trying to make adjustments, to make it more presentable. But the problem is it is really too little too late.
First, the big push should be for infrastructure projects that can generate employment and spending nation wide. These little tax breaks are okay but they are chump change. Tax breaks for first time home buyers and buyers of new cars are not going to put a lot of money in the system. After all, who can get a loan to buy a house or new car?
Unfortunately, both houses of Congress are being over protective of the money and not placing it where it can do the most good.
Obama is going to put limits on officer pay in banks or corporations who receive bailout money starting now. Big deal. What he should be doing is offering incentives to get their banks/companies viable again and competing in the world market.
Let's get building roads, bridges and tunnels that lead somewhere and are used by large numbers of the public. Let's hold the firms that get the contracts accountable and make them earn their money.
I, like many others, am still waiting to see the "change" Obama promised to bring to Washington.
So far it appears to be business as usual.
Let's put pressure on our representatives and the President to live up to their promises. We did our part by getting them into office, now its their turn to deliver.

Obama's Cabinet
Before I make some comments on President-elect Obama's cabinet picks I just want to say farewell to Ricardo Monteblam. My generation will always remember the Chrysler Cordoba with "Corinthian Leather", not to mention Mr Rourke waiting for "Da plane, da plane, boss."
All reports are that he was a true gentleman. His kind were rare, and they are getting rarer.
Now about the cabinet. Richardson is out, Hillary does not want to disclose the names of the foreign contributors to Billy's charity, Senate Arlen Specter and a few others want more details of just what role Eric Holder had in the pardons Bill Clinton gave at the end of his second term, and Tim Geithner did not know he was suppose to pay taxes, Social Security and Medicare when he work for the International Money Fund. (IMF). Not to mention the legally of his hired help.
Please. Geithner is to be the Secretary of the Treasury, the man in charge of the IRS. If he does not know when to pay his taxes, how should I?
Of course we all know they will get confirmed, just like Roland Burris. This Congress talks tough but thus far has displayed very little backbone.
They are moaning and groaning about releasing the 2nd $350 billion because the first half has not been well monitored. They should have put the monitors in place initially. They can still do it, what is their problem?
Obama and change. Where is it? He's bringing members of the Washington gang back to DC in one form or another. Where are the fresh new faces? Where are the fresh ideas?
Thus far I am not impressed. His first Hundred Days better be dynamic or a lot of people are going to be disappointed and let down.

Recession - DAH!!!!!!!!
Wall Street fell yet again with the official news that the country is in a recession. What the hell do they think has been going on? They need official word to know that things are screwed up?
Explain to me again why we want to bail these jokers out? (I know its the fancy banks but they are all linked to Wall Street.)
On a hopefully positive note Barrack Obama named his security team. No surprises and some people who at least on paper look pretty good. Time will tell.
Tomorrow Georgia is having their run off for Senate. Sarah Palin came to root for the Republican and the Clintons and Al Gore showed up for the Democrat. Even the Obamas sent recorded messages. Tomorrow we'll see if anyone really cares.
What's the word from Minnesota? Al Franken where are you?
In just 24 days we celebrate Christmas. With all of the craziness in the world - terror attacks in Mumbai, a worker trampled to death in a Wal Mart in New York, insurgencies continuing in Iraq and Afghanistan, civil war in the Congo and Nigeria, the president of Russia invading the Caribbean and visiting Fidel and making deals with Chavez - maybe we all need to sit back and reflex on where we fit into the scheme of things. Those of us who are Christian plan to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace. Have we lived up to his example?
Who am I? What do I want? What kind of person am I? Do I care about the good of the many or am I only interested in myself?
This weekend I watched the HBO miniseries on the life of John Adams and although I do not agree with all he did or said, I do believe that even though he had a large ego, his overlying motivation was for the good of the people and the country.
Do our current leaders have that vision? Do they want to make this country and world better or are they only interested in the own ambitions? Time will tell.
Who do you care about? What do you care about?
To thine own self be true, then take care of your family, then your country and then the world.

Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State
Barrack Obama is working on putting his cabinet together and during the past week he has evidently been interviewing candidates for various positions. One of the big headliners to come out of this process is Hillary Clinton, who reportedly is being considered for the position of Secretary of State.
I personally do not believe that Hillary should become a member of Obama's cabinet. Not that I don't think she's qualified, I actually believe she could handle any of the cabinet posts, I just think she will prove much more valuable to Obama from her position in the Senate. The Democrats may end up with the numbers in the Senate they need for a majority, but the more seasoned veterans they have, the better their chances of passing the legislature they want.
Hillary can do a lot more pushing through legislation than could a newly appointed replacement. After all, Obama and Biden are going to be replaced by new blood, no need in getting rid of all of the veterans.
Bill Richardson seems like the best choice for Secretary of State, in my opinion. He was already work on the international scene through the UN, he has connections, and I think he will work well with Obama.
Obama needs to keep Hillary as an attack dog in the Senate. As long as the two of them can make some comprises on health care, I think Obama will find Hillary to be a valuable member of his team.
Put your best people in the places they can do the most good.
