Washington DC - Stop Spending Now!!
Secondly, let's clear out the illegals and force those employers to hire out of work Americans at legal salaries with benefits. Congress can make the changes, if they just get off their lazy butts.
Its Common Sense!
Dear Senator
I have been watching the news about extending unemployment benefits for the unemployed. Although I sympathize with their plight I have to ask, when does the national borrowing stop? Just how large a deficit can this country sustain? What happens when our creditors call in their notes?
This country is trillions of dollars in debt. If I ran my household in the same manner I would be on the street with nothing.
The time has come to stop borrowing. The government needs to learn how to survive with what it has, not what it wishes it had.
Fight unemployment by offering incentives to those creating new jobs. Help those starting businesses to get low interest loans from the banks - we the people bailed them out, it's about time the banks showed some appreciation by helping reverse the crisis they created.
Our current debt will not be paid in the life time of my great grand children. That is an unfair burden to put on any generation - much less the next five generations in this country.
As the government, you have to start spending responsibly, within the limits put on you by the revenue collected through our taxes. When the money is gone, then it's gone.
Our government's current practice of throwing money everywhere is turning our nation into a welfare state. People are becoming accustomed to the government taking care of them without them giving anything back.
The current budget deficits in the majority of our states shows that the people can no longer be dependent on the state to support them, they have to support the state.
Please stop the spending, fight for a balanced budget and do not allow our nation to continue in a downward spiral.
Thank you.

Congressional Accountability and Responsibility
The other day we learned that for the first time Social Security brought in less than was needed to pay monthly benefit checks. Which means the government is going to have to borrow money, because Congress left a bunch of IOUs and raided the Social Security Trust Fund. Where is the responsibility and accountability in that action? Through their greed and stupidity Congress, rather than leaving the Fund alone to gain interest, blew the money on whatever half assed thing got their attention and now they will increase an already out of control debt even higher.
Health Care Reform. People need health care and there has to be a way to do it that will please the majority. Does Congress sit down and try and do what is best for the American people? Of course not. Better split based on party lines and say the hell with the people. My way right or wrong. Compromise is not an option.
Watching some of these pompous baboons on TV infuriates me and makes me marvel that some of these clowns just keep coming back.
Since it is obvious that our government does not want to be accountable or responsible, I think its time we the people take over. God knows we can't do any worse.
During the next weeks I intend to make a proposal to my senators for a bill to limit campaign funding so that not only the rich will be able to run for office in this country. Its time that those of us in the trenches had a chance on Capital Hill to bring back a sense of reality.
Obama made a lot of promises about changing the system and having an open government, but as he pointed out to John McCain during the Health Care Fiasco, that was a campaign promise and no one is campaigning anymore. How's that for a taste of reality?
Anyway, we all need to start thinking of ways to get the common man to DC. Best way to start - vote the incumbents out.

Bank Interest Rates
They do have a lot of nerve.
It ticked me off so i sent the following epistle off to our friends in D.C. (The President & my representatives.)
Please feel free to use any or all and write to the President and your representatives as well.
Dear Senator
Help me understand why the banks who took my tax money to bail them out of financial ruin are now being allowed to raise the interest rates on credit cards?
Worse, we are not talking about fixed rates, but variable rates which they control.
I have a card with Citi Bank and the interest rate is now 17+%. (I talked to them and got it down to 14+ whoop de do!)
From what I have seen, many of the banks are moving to the plus column. Why are they being allowed to take advantage of the consumer/taxpayer?
On last night's news I learned that the bill you passed to control credit card debt and interest rates does not go into effect until February 2010. By that time the banks will have fixed interest rates at 25+% and they will be able to remain.
To say the least, I am disappointed.
You borrow money from China to bail out the banks, which went into collapse due to greed and mismanagement, and now the taxpayer/consumer is suppose to pick up the pieces, bear the cost and accept all additional burdens.
Once again, middle class American workers have received a royal screwing.
When will the President and Congress consider us? We are not a fatted cow that continually gives. One day we will have nothing left.
The next time you decide to bail out the "big" boys, remember us in the trenches who have to pay for your decisions.
Yours

More on Health Care Reform
Already I am concerned about how its going to be paid for. I read that Pelosi is proposing that all individuals making over $500,000.00 a year will take on an additional tax, as will couples making more than $1,000,000.00. How many doctors fit into that category?
Okay, so the cost is an issue.
Then I just learned that insurance for the current uninsured will not be available until 2013, and that the actual overhaul will be completed "maybe" by 2018. We could have a new President in 2013 and only God knows what the make up of the House and Senate will be by then. Which means that all the talk and money could end up going for nothing.
In the mean time, what are the uninsured to do? I guess continue what their doing and leave it up to the middle class to pay the bills in one form or another.
President Obama is suppose to have a television conference on Wednesday. We all need to watch and listen. And then we all need to let him know what we think.
One good thing about the Obama White House is the accessibility to their email sight. Now, I have to admit that I have not received any responses to my questions and observations, but being an optimist, I hope that is a sign that millions of citizens are letting the President know their views and it is too much for his staff to handle. (The other option is that I'm being ignored, which I realize is the more likely reality.)
In any case remember to watch on Wednesday, then let your voices be heard.

Obama Health Plan Saga
Here is the President's plan.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/fy2010_key_healthcare/
Now here is the bill Congress just passed.
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h676/show
Now I know there is a lot to read and that the majority of you are going to give up before getting to the end. I know I did. Which is the important thing. There is too much to digest. Just from the little I read I am confused.
If you take the government program, does that mean as a senior you are no longer entitled to Medicare?
Are all states going to be forced to accept the directives of the bill, (if it passes the Senate & receives the President's signature) or are their options available?
Will private insurers, such as Care First, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Aetna etc, be limited on how they can raise their premiums, or will they be able to force some of their clients into the government program and only keep their high paying clients?
Most importantly, who is going to pay for this health care act? Will the cost be equally distributed, or will the burden once again fall on the middle class tax payer?
As I look at this bill and the rush to pass it, I feel we are charging into a nightmare that will be mismanaged, and spiral into an out of control money pit.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm just a pessimist who has no faith in government run programs being cost efficient and help full.
Send your opinions. Show me the silver lining around the cloud.
If you also don't see one, then write your representatives and let your voices be heard. We cannot allow our taxes and debt to continue to rise to support useless programs.
Its Common Sense!

National Health Care Reform
Feel free to use all or part in writing to your own representatives. We need to let Washington know that we will not stand for them to continue spending money we do not have for programs they cannot control.
Enough is enough. We have to let Washington know what we think and take control.
Its Common Sense!!
Dear (Varied depending on Recipient)
National Health Care is the big issue, especially since it appears that Judge Sotomayor will be confirmed to the US Supreme Court with no problem.
I agree that health care needs to be available and affordable for all of us here in the United States. However, I believe that before the Federal Government undertakes the task of establishing an equitable health care system, where the patient will have true options for health coverage and premium payments that the government first needs to take control of the two health programs it already runs.
I am speaking of Medicare and Medicaid. Currently both programs are mismanaged, have no accountability and are costing taxpayers millions of dollars every year due to fraud, the inability to negotiate provider services, and because many doctors do not want to participate due to antiquated payment and accounting procedures.
Before Congress commits billions to yet another new program that we the taxpayers cannot afford, why not show us how a well run health program should work?
I think your first objective should be to revamp Medicare and Medicaid, get rid of the waste, permit negotiation for provider services, prosecute those defrauding the system and do away with the overspending, so that seniors on Medicare do not need to have their Part B premiums raised every year, and that the percentage of the cost of services paid by Medicare does not keep decreasing.
As for Medicaid, the system needs an entire overhaul, in every state, and citizens should no longer feel they have a right to free health care just because of their financial situation. Medicaid is a health care assistance program, not a do all program.
Within their means, everyone needs to assist in the payment of health care. Those working and already paying health care premiums and deductibles should not have to take on the additional burden and tax of paying for those not working or having coverage.
This country needs to get away from the welfare state mentality, where some pay for all, and enforce a mentality of individual responsibility. If we accept our own responsibilities, then we can create a collective responsibility.
Please, no new national health care programs until the current two are actually running smoothly and debt free. We the people cannot assume any more debt or deficit. It is time for all of us to live within our means, and that includes all government spending.
Thank you.

Loopholes
Sounds good. But is there any reality to his plan? Will Congress actually pass an enforceable bill with teeth that will harm their sponsors? What happens if the corporations simply start donating to the next guy or gal they can buy and the incumbent fades away at the next election?
Where is the plan to hold Congress accountable? They are spending like wild men/women right now and let's face it, that budget was full of a lot of Democratic pork. The President should get some laws on the books that makes Congress accountable, then go after business America. As long as Congress is allowed to let the right hand do one thing and the left hand another, corporate America will never be held accountable.
Its time we the people make Congress represent us and not the corporations. We are the majority, its about time they started acting in our best interests.

Senator Mikulski on Credit Card Debt
Senator Mikulski is the first to respond. After you read her response let me know if you think she has a clue about what is going on. Seems to me that she is on another planet.
Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for contacting me about credit cards practices. I appreciate hearing from you about this important issue.
I have always been a strong advocate for consumers and want to see that consumers are protected from unfair or abusive practices. I know that some businesses take advantage of their customers, charge confusing or unfair fees, and don't disclose sufficient information.
You'll be glad to know that, because of legislation that Congress passed last year (P.L. 109-8), credit card statements are required to include more information about how long it will take to pay off the balance by only making the minimum payment. Unfortunately, many credit cards have required a minimum payment so low that it would take decades to pay off a credit card balance. I believe it is important for consumers to have as much information as possible. Letting consumers know how long it will take to pay off a credit card gives them the ability to make informed decisions about their financial future.
I want to see fair treatment for consumers in all business transactions, and the credit card marketplace is no different. Your suggestions for changes to current credit card laws are very helpful to me. I will keep these suggestions in mind should any legislation concerning credit cards come before the Senate in the future.
Thanks again for getting in touch with me about this issue. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you in the future.
Sincerely, Barbara A. MikulskiUnited States Senator

Senator Cardin on Illegal Aliens
I am surprised that he is actually showing a semi-tough approach. Of course this is talk, we'll see if his actions speak as loud as his words.
Its Common Sense!
Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for writing to me regarding our country's immigration system.
Our nation's immigration and border security system is broken and must be fixed. We must require illegal immigrants to step forward and become legal and we must better secure our borders. We must restore the rule of law and enhance security at our borders. The Congress and the President must work together to reform our laws . We also must use the full force of the law against employers who hire illegal immigrants.
I support changes to the law that will require illegal immigrants to become legal. They must pay taxes, learn English, and pass criminal background checks. This process won't be easy or quick, but it will be fair and practical. Individuals who came to this country illegally will be bumped to the back of the line behind those who waited to come to this country legally. And illegal immigrants with a criminal record would be deported. Those who refuse to register and meet these con ditions also should be deported.
To secure our borders, the government should require the use of a biometric entry-exit system for all land borders, so that we have an accurate record of who is entering and leaving the United States . We should create a "smart" enforcement regime which will produce more efficient inspections and screenings, and allow us to target and tailor our limited resources to combat illegal smuggling of people and contraband. I supported recent appropriations that provided $1.6 billion for border security fencing, infrastructure and technology, and facility construction, as well as the hiring of 3,000 new Border Patrol agents.
To meet the needs of our workforce and promote family reunification, we should set in place realistic immigration numbers and policies, and clear the backlog of legal visas, green card legal permit resident and citizenship applications. In the last Congress, Senator Feinstein has introduced the "Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act" , S. 340, in order to provide for new blue card visas and modify the H-2A program. This year, Senator Mikulski has introduced the "Save our Small and Seasonal Businesses Act" , S. 3 88, to extend the annual cap exemption for returning H-2B workers. While these two bills address key issues in the immigration debate, a comprehensive approach is the only way to adequately deal with this issue.
We can no longer ignore corporations who are hiring and exploiting illegal workers. This practice takes jobs away from Americans and depresses wages for everyone. These unlawful companies must be prosecuted and face stiff criminal and civil penalties. We need smart policies like improved border patrols, full enforcement of our laws, and requiring illegal immigrants to become legal.
The status quo is not working. Allowing 12 million to hide in the shadows and live in this country illegally is unacceptable. Our system must be fixed. Again, thank you for writing to me regarding this important issue. If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

Kudos to Gates
Finally someone at the Pentagon is showing the courage to tell the industrial complex enough is enough. Too much money has been wasted on projects that never are completed for the original bid. Its time the Defense department gets tough and holds industry to their word. If they cannot honor their bid, then they need to return the money and let someone who can get the job done.
I hope that other departments follw Defense's lead and start making the necessary cuts to help out our country in this time of need.
With interagency cooperation America just might be back on its feet in a couple of years.

G20
Who are the G20? By continent they are:
Africa = South Africa
Asia = China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey
Australia = Australia
Europe = France, Germany, Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, the European Union
North America = Canada, Mexico, the United States of America
South America = Argentina, Brazil
Antarctica = No representation
Now Russia and Turkey are both actually in Asia and Europe but I limited them to one continent.
Looking at these countries what I find a little disturbing is first to realize that more than 90% of the world's wealth is held by these 20 countries. (Actually 19 countries and a multi-country entity.)
Secondly, what I find disturbing is the number of countries on this list that have such wide difference between the few with the wealth and the multitude that is poor. Countries like Indonesia and Mexico have very small middle classes. Brazil, India, and Turkey are seeing the being of a rise in the middle class, whereupon China's rising middle class might start falling back due to the current financial situation.
It is noble that they pledged funds for their poor neighbors, we'll wait and see what the reality of that pledge becomes. For the short amount of time they had together, with the disagreements and lack of unity, it will be interesting to watch how things play out.
You would think that Europe would pull together with a European plan, but that doesn't seem to be happening. The North Americans could band together, after all we have NAFTA, but with the drug wars in Mexico, its very doubtful if anyone will want to work with Mexico, and the Canadians have come out tough, so it looks like the economic recovery is going to be every nation for themselves.
Rather sad commentary that these so called "rich" nations can not come to the world's aid in a crisis like this. Unfortunately things continue as normal, everyone wanting to be top dog and refusing to compromise. These strutting leaders are not the ones who suffer, they'll be comfortable the rest of their lives. Its the people who voted them into office who have to bear the burden of what their greedy colleagues allowed to happen.
Let's hold the leaders accountable, let them know they are being watched, and that there are no guarantees in this world, especially their jobs.

Czar Geithner
Rather bold statement. Even though I am not thrilled with the practices of AIG, Morgan-Stanley and the rest, and I most certainly believe there need to be stronger rules and regulation in place, the idea of allowing the Treasury Secretary all of the power Geithner wants is a little frightening. After all, this is a guy who couldn't remember to pay his taxes.
Do we really want to give him the potential power to go take over companies and destroy lives, if he thinks there is a threat? What controls will be place over the Treasury Department to keep them from becoming the Gestapo?
Perhaps we will learn more tonight when President Obama addresses the nation.
Limited control and responsibility is good, absolute control leads to too much power in too few hands.
We will have to keep a careful eye on the Administration.

AIG Bonus Payments
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090315/ap_on_bi_ge/aig_bonuses
Needless to say I do not care what contracts AIG employees signed prior to the bailout. Without the bailout money, AIG would be bankrupt, and the employees unemployed. Now, they are going to use taxpayer money to provide these bonuses, although they plan to restructure bonuses in the future.
Give me a break. The company failed and is only surviving at tax payer expense. As an involuntary share holder of AIG, no one has offered me any bonus. Why should those who took the company into debt get a bonus?
These are questions I will be asking my representatives and probably the president because I find this the worst kind of rip off.
I will be posting my letters in the near future.
Send your own letters and be heard. Its our country and our money. We need to have our say.

Sentaor Cardin on the Stmulus
Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ( H.R. 1 ) . Over the past few months, I have heard from thousand s of Maryland ers who are struggling in this economic climate, but are also worried about significant new federal spending . I share your concerns about our economy; it is my top priority in the United States Senate.
Our economy is hurting and President Obama asked Congress to support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act . I agree with President Obama that there is no miracle that will solve our problems overnight, but if we do not act quickly, this recession could continue for years . America could lose its competitive edge that has served as the foundation for our strength and standing in the world . I am committed to working in a bipartisan manner to find ef fective legislative solutions that benefit working individuals and families. These solutions must be timely, temporary, and guarantee greater transparency and accountability so that consumers, homeowners, investors and taxpayers are adequately protected. Additionally, we must improve the current regulatory system so that we can help stabilize the financial markets and increase the availability of credit to families and small businesses.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act would provide needed tax relief for individuals and families. The bill include s a $25 0 one-time payment distrib uted to Social S ecurity ben eficiaries, disabled veterans, SSI beneficiaries, and retired rail-road workers; an alternative minimum tax patch for 2009; a temporary suspension of federal income tax on the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits; and an expansion of the homeowner tax credit to $8 ,000 .
I also sponsored a provision in the bill that would provide relief to our nation's small businesses. It is essential that surety bonding capacity be available for small business contractors once funds are made available to rebuild our nations' infrastructure. My provision increase s the current statutory limits under the Surety Bond Guarantee Program from $2 million to $5 million . This will allow small businesses to compete for a greater share of federal contracts and ensure that the government better spreads it s ' work among minority owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and disadvantaged small businesses.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 would provide important investments in health information technology. These investments will quickly grow jobs in the health care sector and eventually improve the quality of health care for every American. The bill would also expand health insurance coverage through COBRA and Medicaid programs to individuals who lose their jobs and are uninsured. It also include s a temporary increase in the Medicaid federal matching funds, several unemployment benefits , and supplemental grant extensions for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to assist states struggling to meet the growing needs of newly unemployed workers.
On a local level, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act would provide at least $2.5 billion for Maryland . A portion of t his money would put Marylanders immediately to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges , and transit systems - creating a stronger and more efficient infrastructure for the 21st century economy. Funds will be distributed throughout Maryland for infrastructure , science, education, training, energy, and will help protect our most vulnerable citizens by providing immediate relief for the poor, the young , and the elderly.
Representative David Obey introduced H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 on January 26 , 2009. The House passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Conference Report by a vote of 246-183 on February 13, 2009, and it was forwarded to the Senate . I voted for H.R. 1 , and the Senate passed it by a vote of 60-38 that evening. On February 17, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and it became Public L aw : 111-5 .
I appreciate your contacting me about this most serious and difficult issue. I ask that you continue to keep me informed of your views on efforts to improve the economy. With your help, we can work together in pursuit of bipartisan solutions to improve the lives of working families and our country as a whole. Line Item Veto
Its Common Sense!
Dear Senator
In watching the news during the past two weeks, it is evident that our country is in trouble and that responsible spending is going to be necessary to get the country's economy back on track.
One way I feel that the President and Congress can show the American people that the debt they creating is responsible, is by passing the line item veto.
President Obama has made it very clear that he is against entitlements (pork) and with the Democrats controlling both the legislative and executive branches of the government, I feel this is an excellent time to show that the people's money is going to be use responsibility and not for special interests.
The line item veto is one area where you should be able to get bi-partisan support. We all know that Senator John McCain is a great proponent of this measure and if he co-sponsors the bill with the senators of Maryland there is a high probability of success.
We day we listen to the staggering amounts, perhaps $4 trillion just in interest to pay, that we the people need to know our money is being spent wisely and appropriately.
Thus far the score card on Congressional oversight is not good. Congress gave $350 billion to banks that only seem to be using their money for their own purposes, not the American public. Where are the Congressional controls?
We the people need to know that the President and Congress are serious about controlling the debt that is placing on this country for the next four generations.
The line item veto let's us know that bills can be passed without "pork" being forced on.
With a debt in the trillions, the days of Congressional free spending needs to end. Every dollar needs to be account for.
Push the passage of the line item veto and show America that you truly care.
Thank you.

Senator Mikulski on the Stimulus
Dear Mr. Wolfe:
Thank you for getting in touch with me about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (P.L. 111-5). It's good to hear from you.
I appreciate hearing your views about this issue. We have inherited a terrible mess, our economy is teetering, and we need to work together to get out of it.
President Obama and Congress have taken a major step forward by enacting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Only a few weeks into a new Congress and a new Administration, we stood up for America and enacted the most significant economic stimulus legislation in our nation's history. By standing with President Obama, we stand up for America to create jobs for people who have lost them and to help those who have jobs keep them. This really is about jobs, jobs, jobs.
The ARRA creates jobs by investing in our infrastructure. It fixes aging physical infrastructure like roads, bridges, public transit and water systems. It invests in the technological infrastructure like broadband to expand small businesses. And it makes major improvements to our social infrastructure by investing in education so that families and local school districts can help special needs children, extending unemployment insurance for struggling families, and increasing federal assistance for the Medicaid program so states won't cut care for seniors and the poor. It also has targeted tax breaks to help families and small businesses.
I'm heartened that my automobile amendment was included in this legislation. It makes state sales or excise car tax deductible for all new cars purchased before the end of this year. It helps consumers and it helps save jobs in the automobile industry. From the salesman who sells the car, to the manufacturers who make it, to the mechanic who fixes it, and office managers who process the paperwork.
Last month 598,000 people lost their jobs, so this bill is a victory for America. It stimulates the economy today and lays the groundwork for a stronger economy tomorrow.
For more information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, you may be interested in the White House website http://www.recovery.gov, where you can read the full text of the legislation and see how the money is being spent.
Thanks again for getting in touch with me about these issues. Knowing of your views was helpful to me. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you in the future.

Obama's Budget
One thing is to reduce the spending in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is that really going to happen? Hopefully the majority of our troops will be out of Iraq by 2011, but how much financial support will the USA continue to provide to the Iraq government?
Afghanistan will be receiving new troops shortly. New troops means more equipment, infrastructure and more cooperation with the Afghanistan government and military. In addition, if there is going to any real success against Al Quada and the Taliban, the USA and NATO are going to need to invest heavily in Afghanistan's education system, economic situation, and the creation of jobs that are non-poppy related and can offer competitive salaries.
These things will cost money. If the USA skimps, we will pay the price in more blood and bodies over the long haul.
Obama plans to let the tax cuts for the rich - those earning over $250,000.00 a year - run its course and expire in 2010. I can see the Republicans staying quiet and not asking for a renewal of the tax break.
With all the money that has been borrowed for the stimulus, the government's concentration should be on getting American business in the + column again, and then begin the work of taxing the public and industry fairly to bring in the revenue to pay off the debt.
As for controlling the deficit, Congress and the President have to start working off a balanced budget. No more out of control spending, taking loans from anyone willing to give us a handout. Our status in the world is going down because our leaders are perceived as money hungry bureaucrats.
A balance budget means that all of us need to start making sacrifices and live within in our means. At the same time we have to stay safe and strong. Hard to do but possible.

Stimlus - Economic Help or Hinderance?
The Republicans will complain that the allocation of funds is totally wrong and not doing any good. They will also complain about the debt this stimulus puts on our grandchildren and great-grand children. I have to agree with them about that.
The Democrats will praise the affects of the stimulus, although they will get very defensive if forced to justify why some of their pet projects got funding, since they have little or nothing to do with the overall economic recovery of the nation.
Of course it is we the people who will be forced to make the most honest evaluation of the stimulus. Did it save and/or create all the jobs that were promised? Did it begin repairing the infrastructure of the country? Did the stimulus inspire green jobs? Did our energy companies begin investing in creating alternative energy sources that will make the United States energy independent? Are our schools better? Are we once again seen as a world leader?
A lot of questions, time will tell how the report card will be graded. President Obama during his travels this week says he wants to be judged on how effective or ineffective his plan is. Let's hope that we will be able to provide him with the honesty he wants.

Ask the Senate about the Stimulus Package
As always, feel free to use all or any part of the letter to contact your representatives in hopes of getting answers from them.
We need to let those who represent us know we are not sheep who will passively go where ever they say. Our voices need to be heard and our desires respected.
Its Common Sense!
Dear Senator
I understand that on Monday January 5, 2009 President-elect Obama is scheduled to meet with congressional leaders to discuss a stimulus plan he wants waiting for his approval on January 20.
The stimulus package will cost around $800 billion dollars.
Where is the money coming from? Is the plan to increase our international debt? What interest rate will we be paying? What deals will the USA be making with China for the money or at least part of the money?
Then the question about taxes has to be raised. I know President-elect Obama has promised not to increase personal income taxes, but what about other taxes?
I read that both at the federal and state levels the plan is to increase gasoline taxes by at least 50%. Will that kind of increase also be added to electronics, telephones, automobiles, travel, lodging, etc?
We Americans are not stupid. We know the government needs money to run its programs. What we want is an honest explanation as to how the government plans to raise the money.
Do not boast that you did not raise my personal income tax when you raised the tax on everything I buy. A tax is a tax, a tax increase is a tax increase.
Be honest and tell us where and when the increases will occur. Better we pay additional taxes than stay indebted to China forever.
Tell us the plan - the whole plan.
Let's start this new Democratic Administration with a fresh concept - total honesty for the American public. Tell us the truth, let us know what we have to do, what burden we have to accept, lay it all out for us. Forget the lies, forget the smoke and mirrors - honesty - let that be the watch word of the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress.
Now is the time to set the example for the world, show what true democracy really is all about.
Thank You.

New Direction for Bailout
Where do they come up with these plans?
The country got in the current crisis due to poor lending practices, now the government is going to provide the money for the banks to do it all over again. Why save these banks? They screwed up and should pay for their greed. Better to support some small and up coming banks that just might have learned a lesson and will follow follow good business practices.
The same is true for GM, Ford and Chrysler. They insisted in putting out the gas guzzling SUVS and pickups and are paying the price. They should pay the price, not me. As I have said, no money to them without very careful controls.
Of course I thought there was going to all kinds of oversight with the bailout, but that doesn't seem to be working. Why isn't Congress all over this protecting our money? I haven't heard anyone say the Treasury Secretary shouldn't change the rules of the game in mid-field.
Even with plus numbers for the stock market today, they do not really foretell a positive change, they rather show greed once again raising its head.
Be careful with your money, any deal that sounds too good to be true is.
Keep an eye on the D.C. gang and let them know when you KNOW they are wrong.
Its Common Sense!
