I see that Vice-President Biden swore in Paul Kirk as temporary Senator of Massachusetts, giving the Democrats their 60 seats in the Senate.
Frankly, I am not happy that the Obama Administration used the Kennedy influence to insure he has enough votes to ram Health Care Reform through the Congress if the Republicans do not get any of the compromises they are seeking.
The state of Massachusetts decided years ago on a policy to replace a US Senator and I feel that policy should be respected. If the citizens of Massachusetts want to change the policy, then there should be a state referendum and a decision made by the people, not some lawmakers looking for payback at a later date.
Between asking the governor of New York not to run, and pushing for the governor of Massachusetts to give them a friendly man for the Senate, I think the Obama Administration are stepping out of bounds.
Blatant interference is not the way to inspire the confidence of the people.
These actions are a disappointment. Obama, and especially his team need to be a little more considerate of the feelings of the American public or they just might discover they are in for a short time in Washington.
Its Common Sense!

Health Care Reform Referendum
Here is a copy of the letter I sent to my senators regarding a health care referendum. A similar one was sent to the President.
Please feel free to use all or any part when contacting your representatives.
Its our health, we need to be in control.
Its Common Sense!
Dear Senator
For the past several days I have watched town hall meeting on news networks and CSPAN and the one thing very clear is that there is a lot of misinformation floating around.
Primarily, there is no health bill at this moment. Evidently there are several versions floating around the House of Representatives, but the Senate has not put anything together yet.
I propose that you, Congress and the President announce that once there is an actual bill, agreed upon by the majority of the Congress, that rather than the President signing off on it, that you make it available to the American public, and allow the people whose lives will be affected by the legislation to vote on it as a national referendum.
This is for all Americans, we should be the ones who get to vote on whether we want it or not.
Unfortunately, we can not trust our representatives to do the right thing because we know they are highly influenced by lobbyists and seem to be out of touch with the reality of their constituents.
An example of that appeared this week when it was discovered that Congress budgeted in the Air Force budget, money for executive air planes to fly themselves around the country and the world. They condemned the CEO's of the Big three Auto makers, but have no problem looking out for themselves.
For an issue this important, I want a direct say. My vote needs to count, not the vote of someone I did not elect or think qualified for the job.
Please consider letting the decision of health care reform be the decision of the American citizens and not the Capital Hill Gang.
Thank you.

CIA torture investigation?
Recently Leon Panetta, current director the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), reported that he had been informed that after 9/11 then Vice-President Dick Cheney had instructed CIA personnel not to inform Congress of any activities they were undertaking, especially in the areas of torture and eavesdropping.
Amazingly, Mister Cheney, who has been so visible & talkative lately, is not available for comment.
Following that theme, of possible wrong doing by the CIA while receiving orders from the Bush Administration (Dick Cheney), Attorney General Eric Holder is considering naming a special prosecutor to see look into the allegations and take necessary actions, if it is proven the CIA overstepped their bounds.
Interestingly enough, the Obama Administration would prefer that Holder let sleeping dogs lie, which raises some interesting questions. Such as, was Congress as ignorant about CIA actions as they have pretended? Did then Senator Obama, along with the majority of his colleagues give silent approval, but following that old tradition of asking no questions and hearing no lies?
I think if an investigation is allowed, we will find there is a lot more lies and dirt than anyone suspected. All parties are going to be found complicit in what occurred, either actively or silently. However, guilty is guilty and many heads could role.
It will be interesting to see if Holder proceeds or backs down.
Will the truth win out, or will it be business as usual?
Keep watch.

Democrats vs Republicans
The Democrats and Republicans are definitely at odds over the stimulus package. I have to admit that I am in agreement with the Republicans regarding parts of the package that appear to do very little to get the economy moving. If you don't have a job, and the banks aren't giving loans, what does it matter if you get a tax break when you buy a new car?
The same thing goes with buying a new house, who can afford to do it and where do you get the money to do it?
Seems to me the package needs to hit the key problems - getting people back to work and forcing the banks to start doing business by worrying more about a small profit as opposed to a large profit, at least until things stabilize.
Once again I stress INFRASTRUCTURE projects. I am convinced they are the way to go. I realize it is government money, but we tax payers need roads, bridges and tunnels to get around, so they are things worth investing our tax dollars in.
As far as the development of home grown energy, energy companies, working with the government can begin these projects. The energy companies will be the ones to make the profits, they should be brave enough to put up the risk capital to get things started.
Write your representatives, push for infrastructure projects, which can get people working now and insure that all of the businesses dependent on the working class will be able to continue functioning.
Americans working together is the only way to beat the current economic situation.
